Slab to Table: Handcrafted Platters

Love pottery and entertaining? In this 3-session experience, you'll create your own unique serving platters (2)—starting with slabs of clay and ending with two beautiful, functional pieces ready for your table.

Choose from a variety of forms, textures, and tools to shape your design, then finish your platters with your choice of glazes and decorative details. Hands-on and creatively fulfilling, this workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to bring handmade artistry to their table.

Session 1: ~3 hours, July 8, 6:30 - 9:30 pm

  • Extrude slab

  • Condition slab (compress and flatten surface, flip onto cloth, compress and flatten second side)

  • Cut to shape and add textures

  • Transfer to your choice of plaster forms

  • Shape into/onto plaster forms

  • Leave to harden overnight, becoming “leather hard” so that it can be finished and embellished.

Session 2: ~2 hours, July 9, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

  • Remove from the plaster form

  • Finish edges and surfaces

  • Sign your pieces (stamped initials or scribed marking)

  • Add embellishments (handles, decorative additions, indentations, and other markings)

  • Leave to fully dry and be fired in the next bisque kiln.

Session 3: ~2 hours, July 29, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
